How I Make a Living Playing Music With a Broken Arm   no comments

This is the story I DID NOT want to tell you. But my wife Amber insisted that I do this. She said it is important because it is real and it is scary and it is true. She said this is the kind of stuff people need to hear. So since she is almost always right (one of the many reasons I truly love her) I will tell you. This last, wii for sale, year June of 2008, one of my worst nightmares came true.

I dislocated my elbow, tore ligaments and broke two bones in my arm. I was riding my bicycle and my front tire went flat and down I went. I was unable to perform or write for 3 months. In fact the rehab still continues but at least I am able to play again – WHEW! And there will be lasting physical, wii for sale, damage. Thank you Doctors everywhere! Now for many of you this is one of the major reasons why you keep your day jobs.

My hat’s off to you. I couldn’t do a regular 9 to 5. I just don’t have it in me. I make my living full time, wii for sale, writing and performing music all over, wii for sale, the USA for corporate events, private parties and for advertising recording sessions. This is a story of how other musicians can market your music, wii for sale, business’ no matter where you live, what style of music you play or you only have one arm.

One if the fastest ways to bring in money is…Go to your past customer list. I asked them when they were going to have their next party. Now remember this is the middle of the summer. Many of these parties and events were not until many months away. How was I able to make money on future gigs when I wasn’t able to play them?Simple. I asked for a 50% deposit. I was able to then live off the deposits.

By the time the gig rolled around I was going to be healed. But what was in it for them? Everyone’s favorite radio station is. WII-FM.What was in it for them was for them was I explained what happened, why I needed their support now AND they got a substantial discount on this year’s party. It was a win-win-win all the way around. And this was only one, wii for sale, way I made a living playing music with only one arm.

What if you don’t have any customers or past clients or shows to call up?I generated a whole, wii for sale, new batch of gigs, new clients and new profits, wii for sale, by contacting new people through my email list. I have been collecting names and information from fans for a long time now. Email seems to be a good way to get a hold of some people. I regularly get 20-25% click through. So you’re not going to get everyone.

But the fact that you’re actually sending out an email to your fans means you’re way ahead of the game.If you don’t have fans’ emails, start collecting them at every gig. Also put a sign up form on your web site. The list can attract a lot of gold. There are a lot of rules for sending out emails. Opt-in. Double opt in. But you don’t have to know all the rules as long as you go with a reputable company.

There are many to choose from. The services they provide allow you to be very creative in finding music gigs; send very entertaining emails with html forms, RSS feeds. It is even possible to send out a video feed. When you send out an email it can link directly to your blog. You can automatically send a feed to any of your Social Networking sites. Email marketing is an important key to helping your music business ruin smoothly.

A sensational way of marketing is to do podcasting. As musicians, we are audio based anyway, so we can promote ourselves way easier than other marketable services.i-Tunes makes it fairly easy to upload. When you upload your audio to i-Tunes, it gives you more credibility. All the instructions for doing it are very easy to follow and they’re all online. Its like the difference between having your product for sale in the local Mom and Pop corner grocery store or in a nationwide chain of Wal-Marts.

Which, wii for sale, store would you trust more?Audio is easy to create. Most computers have some sort, wii for sale, of audio recording that is easy to format. As musicians we have an array of highly functional and very advanced recording programs. Pro Tools is the standard in the industry. I also use Cakewalk which uses Sonar which in turn can be loaded quickly into Pro Tools. But it is not necessary to have some fancy schmancy recording doo-hickys.

A few months ago I bought a real simple digital recorder made by Sony. They call it the IC Recorder. It allows me to speak into and then have my recording transcribed into text.I can record very quickly and easily. I can record simple piano tracks as well as record the band live with decent results. I can easily make 2-3 minute recording promoting the band or the next big show or even just generate leads by making our own little spots or commercials, wii for sale, if you will.

Upload them to your site, put them on i-Tunes or any other of a number of hosting sites. Strip it with your contact information, add a few keywords and you’re generating leads.Fans love this music!Keep it entertaining and fun. We are in the stress relief business. There are a lot of people suffering and going through hard times right now we offer a fantastic and healthy way to relieve that stress.

Keep it light and entertaining. Our fans need us.You can also easily put audio on your web site.I am currently using Word Press for all of our web sites. There are add ons that make it simple as, wii for sale, all get out to upload them and have them sent across the vast reaches of cyberspace via, wii for sale, RSS feeds. Other people will subscribe to your feeds (if you make it fun and entertaining) and then pass it on to their friends.

That is where the viral marketing kicks in.Sometimes, wii for sale, it seems overwhelming. You think to your self, “How am I going to get all this going? I’m not even close to where these other guys are at.”It’s okay. I’ve felt that too. But if you just do a little bit each day, you’ll have a lot done in no time at all. Just do something. Something is always better than nothing. Even if its not ‘perfect’.
