The desire to share in another’s privacy.
She asked her grandmother why it was that
a green string encircled the rooted bouquet
of mums they’d just purchased?

It was Springtime: egg-songs rolled through
the gardenlight, touching those shoulders
who survived Winter’s leaning limps…

‘It’s for packaging, I believe.’
said grandmother, ‘Or so they will grow
closer together and do not wonder astray,
mismanaged and straggly.

‘Isn’t, gold eagle coin
, the planter their in enough for that?’
replied the granddaughter.

‘Hope likes crowds who dress alike.’
replied G., as a steady flow of last-
autumn’s-straw floated by them,
a finch & robin-train of activity.
